Jason E. McGowan, MD, a board-eligible neurosurgeon who specializes in minimally invasive spine surgery, recently joined Denver’s most comprehensive neurosurgical practice. Neurosurgery One is honored to have Dr. McGowan seeing patients at its Lakewood office on the campus of St. Anthony Hospital, 11750 W. Second Place, Suite 255, and its Arvada clinic at 16280 W. 64th Avenue.
Dr. McGowan completed a fellowship in complex spinal deformity at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, with advanced training in scoliosis surgery and spinal reconstruction. He uses the latest surgical techniques, including 360-degree “Circumferential” spinal surgery, to shorten hospital stays and reduce recovery time for his patients. He treats a wide range of spinal conditions, including degenerative disc disease, complex spinal deformity, scoliosis, spinal trauma, and neurotrauma. Dr. McGowan also is trained to treat all types of brain tumors.
Dr. McGowan completed his medical degree and neurosurgical residency at Georgetown University where he led multiple research studies on minimally invasive spine surgery. He is a member of the American Academy of Neurological Surgeons and Society of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgeons, among other professional organizations. Dr. McGowan is a strong believer in ongoing medical education and actively participates in opportunities to learn about the latest technology and techniques in the field of neurosurgery.
What patients truly love about Dr. McGowan is his devotion to their education. He takes the time to explain the specifics of each diagnosis to his patients and their families, even winning a String of Pearls award for “exemplifying humanism in the care of patients.”
“I enjoy the time I spend to educate my patients and their families on all aspects of a disease,” Dr. McGowan says. “I am a firm believer in allowing patients to make informed decisions on their treatment pathway, whether or not that includes surgery.”
Dr. McGowan lives in Denver and enjoys exploring all of the outdoor offerings Colorado has to offer, including snowboarding and hiking. When he’s not outside, you can find him checking out Denver’s culinary scene.
