Dr. Ronald L. Hammers awarded Top Doctor nine years running.
Ronald L. Hammers, MD, is a board-certified neurosurgeon who has practiced in Colorado since 2011 and recognized as a “Top Doctor” in neurosurgery by Colorado Springs Magazine for nine consecutive years. He treats a broad range of neurological conditions, including brain and spine trauma, brain tumors, degenerative spine disease, and peripheral nerve disorders.
Dr. Hammers is particularly known for his expertise in both fusion and motion-preserving, non-fusion spine procedures such as cervical disc replacement, which maintains natural movement and can help patients recover more quickly.
Dr. Hammers has earned a reputation for his thoughtful, patient-centered care. His approach begins with listening carefully to his patients, thoroughly evaluating their condition, and considering the most conservative treatment options first. Only when surgery is the best or only solution does he recommend it—often using minimally invasive techniques designed to minimize tissue disruption, reduce pain, and speed recovery.
Dr. Hammers earned his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Rockford, Illinois. He completed both his general surgery internship and neurosurgical residency at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois, followed by a socioeconomic fellowship through the Council of State Neurosurgical Societies.
By joining Neurosurgery One, Dr. Hammers becomes part of a collaborative team of 10 other neurosurgeons with expertise across the full spectrum of brain, spine, and nerve disorders, as well as five interventional pain management physicians who work closely with the neurosurgeons to offer patients the treatment best suited to their condition.
“I’m motivated by seeing patients recover and return to the lives they love,” Dr. Hammers says. “My role is to help them make informed decisions and guide them toward the safest and most effective treatment, whether that’s surgery or a more conservative option.”
Originally from Illinois, Dr. Hammers lives in Colorado with his wife and three children. Outside the operating room, he enjoys playing racket sports, making music, cooking, and spending time with his family.
